IO chip and clock chip on the computer motherboard

1. IO chip
IO is the abbreviation of input / output manager. It mainly provides a series of input and output interfaces for users. Some IO chips integrate temperature monitoring and voltage monitoring functions at the same time. Common P/S2 interface, serial port, parallel port, front panel, fan and other unified by the IO chip control. Mainboard maintenance common IO chip brands are Winbond,iTE,Fintek,SMSC,nuvoTon Technology (see Fig.1).

When replacing 1O chips in mainboard maintenance, attention should be paid to whether or not they are special to some motherboard manufacturers. For example, Huabang, Inc. 10 chips to see the last model-A is Asus dedicated (see Fig.2)

2.Clock chip
 Clock chip is used to generate different clock signals, to provide reference for each device, so that the equipment on the motherboard can work in a unified and coordinated manner. The clock chip is equivalent to the heart of the human body. If the clock chip is damaged, it will cause the motherboard to have no reset, no running code, no crash and so on. The clock chip in the motherboard is connected to the 14.318MHz crystal oscillator, as shown in figure 3.

WINBOND, ICS, and RTM, are commonly seen in the main board as shown in figure 4. nVIDIA chipset motherboard, after Intel single-bridge H67 chipset motherboard, AMD single-bridge motherboard has no clock chip, clock function is mainly integrated in the bridge chip.
